The advanced presses and ForgeBase® Technology elevate efficiency and quality
Doosan Enerbility, Gyeongnam, Korea, has comissioned SMS group to deliver two high-speed open-die forging presses for Saudi Arabia's largest greenfield casting and forging plant, located near Jubail. These presses, with capacities of 40/45 MN and 20/22.5 MN, will forge components for industries such as petrochemicals, shipbuilding, and energy. The assembly phase began in January 2025.
The scope of supply also includes SMS ForgeBase®, a sophisticated technology software that pre-calculates optimal forging strategies for various materials, enhancing productivity. The inclusion of ForgeBase® technology allows optimizing forging strategies for over 200 materials. These innovations not only streamline operations but also provide the flexibility of automatic, semi-automatic and manual modes, enabling the plant to adapt swiftly to varying production demands. By leveraging these advanced technologies, the plant can achieve reduced downtime, and superior product quality, solidifying its competitive edge in the global market.

The technology provided by SMS group makes the presses highly innovative by integrating engineering solutions that enhance production efficiency and product quality. These high-speed open-die forging presses are equipped with auxiliary systems such as ingot cars and tool shifting devices, which streamline the handling and processing of heavy billets, enabling faster operations.
The ForgeBase® technology is a key component, allowing operators to pre-calculate optimal forging strategies for a wide range of materials. This ensures that each forging process is tailored for maximum reducing waste and improving consistency. The software's extensive data base helps in selecting the best approach for each specific forging task.
Furthermore, the presses feature an online measuring system that continuously monitors the geometry and temperature of the workpieces. This real-time data allows operators to make immediate adjustments, ensuring that each part meets precise specifications, which is especially crucial for complex components like stepped shafts.
The digitalization package, including SMS-Metrics and Smart Alarm, enhances process transparency and reduces maintenance costs by providing detailed insights into plant operations and early fault detection.
