Advancing sustainable and efficient technologies in cokemaking
The new cokemaking complex at Pohang Steelworks in South Korea features two coke oven batteries, COB A and COB B. Each battery is equipped with an under-jet heating system and comprises 48 ovens, 7.6 meters in height. These top-charged batteries are designed to achieve an annual production capacity of 1.5 million tons of coke.
Environmental and technological innovations:
To significantly reduce environmental emissions, the cokemaking complex is equipped with the Paul Wurth SOPRECO® system (Single Oven PREssure Control) and the Paul Wurth low emission Combustion System. These advanced systems enable the facility to meet high standards in coke productivity and quality, emission control, energy efficiency, user-friendliness, and safety.
Project significance:
This project highlights the application of SMS group's advanced cokemaking technology, continuing a series of successful collaborations with POSCO. The focus on sustainability and efficiency reflects the commitment to advancing steel production technologies.
