Tata Steel recognizes SMS group as the “Technology Partner of the Year 2024” at their Annual Supplier Meet on 21st November 2024 in Kolkata. The award was received by Mr. Stefano Pari, COO, SMS India Pvt. Ltd along with Mr. Sanjay Dasgupta and Mr. Narinder Singh Malhan from Mr T V Narendran, CEO & MD Tata Steel. The citation for the award is “For successful commissioning of Caster 2 at TSK Ph-2 and support in of execution of BOF and Caster 3 at TSK-Ph-2”. SMS is also partnering with Tata Steel in the decarbonization journey with development and trial of new technology EASyMelt.

At METEC 2023, SMS group and Tata Steel had signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to take actions for conducting a joint industrial demonstration of the innovative EASyMelt technology at Tata’s blast furnace E in Jamshedpur, India. The main objective of this demonstration project will be to reduce CO2 emissions in a first intermediate step by more than 50% from the blast furnace’s baseline operation.

The  EASyMelt is a resource-flexible, crisis-resilient and cost-efficient alternative to direct reduction shaft furnaces. It offers much lower investment and operational costs compared to conventional direct reduction plants. Plus, it can be integrated into existing integrated steel plants, demonstrating a significant pathway for the decarbonization of existing blast furnaces worldwide.

We are grateful for this partnership with Tata Steel and look forward to continuing our journey towards a sustainable future in the steel industry.
