Summary
Reduction of carbon emissions and fuel consumption
The revamp aims to bring the reheating furnace up to the state-of-the-art and reduce carbon emissions and fuel consumption. This is to be achieved by installing a new set of radiant burners, the SMS RADFlame HY2 burners, a new combustion control system and a smart level 2. The combination of the systems and the radiant burners enables a reduction in fuel consumption in all operating conditions and thus contributes to a reduction in the plant's carbon footprint.
The SMS RADFlame, a radiant-type roof burner, enables a uniform, flat-shaped flame and easy operation. A strong reduction in CO2 emissions is made possible by the hydrogen hybrid configuration of the SMS RadFlame. This additional configuration thus offers all the advantages of the SMS RADFlame with the added fuel flexibility of being able to operate with hydrogen and natural gas in any percentage in the fuel blend. The special air baffle and customized fuel nozzle design enable low NOx emissions even when running on hydrogen.
The modernization is planned to be completed in the summer of 2024.
This is another step forward in the long-lasting relationship between SMS group and Artrom Steel Tubes.
