SIMEC continues the partnership with SMS with its fourth rebar rolling mill
Grupo SIMEC continues to build on its business relationship with SMS group by placing an order for its fourth SMS’ rebar rolling mill in 2023, enhancing its production capacity to 500.000 tons annually. This new facility will enable Grupo SIMEC to diversify its product offerings, including rebar, smooth rounds, squares and wire rods, thereby strengthening its competitive position in the American steel market.

What is special about the 4th SMS rebar rolling mill?
Grupo SIMEC's new rebar rolling mill by SMS group includes several technological highlights designed to maximize production efficiency.
By using a pusher-type furnace with a capacity of 100 t/h for 127 mm and 140 mm square billets with a length of 12 m high thermal efficiency in the reheating furnace can be achieved, optimizing the reheating process while minimizing fossil fuel consumption. To further reduce fossil fuel consumption the combustion optimization system, X-Pact® Prometheus, enables precise temperature profiles for uniformity across various steel grades, thus reducing decarburization and scale losses. Both products lower the environmental impact, promoting sustainable steel production. X-Pact® Prometheus is connected to SMS group’s automation system, including levels 1 and 2.
The High-Speed Delivery System (HSD®) installed at the cooling bed entry, includes a double rotary channel capable of processing rebars at a nominal speed of 38 m/s, ensuring rapid production output. Additionally, the scope of supply includes a fully automated bundle forming and tying station. This automation ensures that rebar bundles are efficiently prepared for transportation, supporting logistical efficiency to meet the growing demands of the American market.
