For its ambitious investments in plants for recycling aluminum and producing high-end flat products in the province of Castilla yLeón in the north of Spain, SMS is supplying a state-of-the-art aluminum cold rolling mill including ancillary facilities for environmentally friendly and sustainable plant operation. The new cold rolling mill, coupled with SMS group’s expertise, will support LatemAluminium  in bringing tailor-made aluminum products to market. The six-high stand is equipped with the CVC®plus (continuous variable crown) technologydeveloped by SMS for work roll and intermediate roll shifting. Combined with other actuators for flexible and precise roll gap adjustment, this technology is capable of producing cold strip in widths of up to 2,200 mm. The mill comes with fully automatic coil and spool handling for efficient operation. SMS group is supplying a fully harmonized mechatronic plant solution. This includes not only the mechanical equipment but also the proven X-Pact® electrical and automation modules specially designed for the aluminum rolling process. The scope of supply also includes auxiliaries such as the rolling oil recovery system and a CO2 fire extinguishing system. The advanced rolling technology is in line with LatemAluminium’s commitment to the environment. For example, SMS is supplying a Multiplate® filter to clean the used rolling oil. The AIRWASH™ system recovers and prepares the rolling oil for reuse and also cleans the exhaust air. This means it is not only better for the environment, it also helps to cut costs.
