Combustion optimization system for tailored steel quality and reduced fuel consumption
With X-Pact® Prometheus, plant operators are able to boost their furnace’s overall performance. The advanced combustion optimization system improves those parameters that can make the difference in special steel quality production. X-Pact® Prometheus allows for targeted improvements of the metallurgical properties, for example increased temperature uniformity or minimized negative effects such as steel decarburization or high scale formation.
The system adopts heating strategies that decrease the temperature set points yet guarantee the required final stock target temperature. Right at the core of the program is a sophisticated mathematical model that simulates the heating curves inside the furnace for each stock. Next, there is a display showing the overall efficiency of the furnace in the form of heating balance diagrams. Also included are consumption and emission calculations that can be correlated to actual production data. X-Pact® Prometheus constantly monitors the heating history parameters of each single workpiece. It works on a predictive basis, constantly making projections to estimate the development of the heating path. Using this as a basis, X-Pact® Prometheus continuously chooses and modifies the temperature set points.
The Level 1 software X-Pact® DigiMod Control also ensures efficient combustion: it modulates how much fuel is required to optimize the burner performance.
