To realize equal distribution of contact pressure and avoid premature meshing, SMS designs the tooth and flank profiles in three steps:
- Standard calculation according to DIN, ISO or AGMA: First comes preliminary calculation and design according to ISO, DIN, or AGMA standards, with safety factors based on more than 125 years of experience in metallurgical plant and rolling mill technology
- Calculation of local tooth contact pressure: Next, our engineers examine the local contact pressure at the load flank. They also consider influences such as shafts, gearing, and housing deformations, as well as bearing behavior (internal bearing geometry). Normally, the result is an inhomogeneous pressure distribution on the tooth and flank profiles
- Calculation of improved tooth geometry and contact pressure: Finally, all this goes into improving tooth and flank profiles to eliminate deformations such as tooth bending and shaft torsion. Our sophisticated design also prevents displacement and deviation caused by the gear housing or the roller bearings, especially at maximum drive train overload. That ensures homogeneous contact pressure at the load flank and high durability.
