First additively manufactured HVOF/HVAF spraying gun comes from SMS group

The PERFECT jet® ID2 HVOF/HVAF internal spraying gun is the first fully additively manufactured spraying gun. It is designed for the inside coating of bores and holes down to a minimum diameter of 60 mm. This opens up entirely new areas of application for thermal spray technology, like the coating of small tubes and pipes, barrels, bearings and liners. Inside coatings protect components at critical points and make them resistant to thermal, chemical or mechanical attacks such as wear or corrosion.

PERFECT jet® ID 2 is an innovation of the successful PERFECT jet® coating gun family

The PERFECT jet® ID2 is a further development of the successful PERFECT jet® coating gun family of the SMS group. The coating gun features an innovative nozzle concept to produce a fine and smooth internal coating.  The resulting coating is of such high quality that in most cases, reworking like grinding or polishing of the inside coating is no longer necessary. This results in the advantage that the coating is ready for immediate use. This is not only time efficient but also reduces operating costs.

The gun offers highest reliability and a low-maintenance concept with highly functional and durable materials for all components. With the PERFECT jet® ID1, the SMS group tries to implement the excellent coating performance with state-of-the-art production technologies. This modern manufacturing technology was to be made even more efficient and energy-reducing in the further development.

Together with the SMS group's in-house Additive Manufacturing department, another generation of coating gun family was developed. The PERFECT jet® ID2 is considered the latest innovation in this series and the first additive manufactured HVOF (High-Velocity-Oxygen-Fuel) / HVAF (High-Velocity Air-Fuel) internal spray gun. Compared to its predecessor, the Perfect jet® ID2 allows insert parts to be reduced by 90%. Furthermore, the changeover time is reduced to less than 5 minutes. 

The integrated substrate cooling keeps the temperature at a tolerable level. A cooling pause is not necessary. Furthermore, the compressed air cleans the surface before coating.
