Using our equipment maintenance knowledge, experience and expertise, and the technical know-how of the SMS group companies, we expertly repair and restore zinc pot equipment so it performs reliably and produces an excellent strip product.

SMS group companies, Fontaine Engineering-FOEN® and Duma Band Zink, have been producing and servicing continuous galvanizing line equipment for more than 40 years. They have extensive experience and technical expertise designing, manufacturing and servicing wiping equipment, coating optimizers, galvanizing/aluminizing lines, electrostatic oiling machines, and zinc pot equipment used in hot-dip strip coating lines and have developed innovative, patented solutions to improve strip product quality and extend production campaigns. 

Working in conjunction with our customers and our sister SMS group companies, we can supply pot roll bearing solutions. We provide a full range of high-quality spare parts and bearing systems that dramatically improve bath roll stability and provide extremely long service lives. In cases where the customer has interest, we can work out inventory supply agreements to provide reliable and easy spare parts supply. Other maintenance services provided for CGL lines include complete maintenance services of the zinc pot rigs (arms, bearings, etc.) as well as air knife cleaning and calibration. 

SMS group provides field service and on-site technical support for all Pro-Eco equipment. As Pro-Eco was purchased by SMS group several years ago our technicians have full access to all drawings and we work closely with our SMS groug spare parts group to provide genuine spare parts. In addition we provide off-site maintenance services where we can bring a variety of Pro-Eco process line equipment into our workshops for repair and testing. Specifically, complex slitting heads can be rebuilt and precisely aligned in the SMS group workshops using Pro-Eco genuine spare parts.

Under license from TOCALO Co., Ltd. of Japan, SMS group is an authorized North American supplier of high-performance thermal-spray coatings for rolls used in continuous galvanizing and annealing lines. The TOCALO coating processes utilized results in proven coating solutions and our processes are audited several times per year by TOCALO personnel so that our customers can be assured that coatings provided by SMS group Inc, are of the highest quality available in North America. Pot roll coatings produced have exceptional hardness, compressive and traverse rupture strength, and superior wear resistance, rolls coated by SMS have long service lives. In addition, pot rolls coated by the proprietary TOCALO coating and sealing process also have greatly increased resistance to zinc dross adhesion; they produce galvanized steel strip product with superior surface quality throughout extended campaigns.

In the case of pot rolls, we can machine and coat sink rolls with either a micro or macro grove configuration. For stabilizer and correcting rolls, we can offer a few different coating and sealing processes to arrive at a roll within a precise roughness (Ra) range as desired by a specific customer. A growing area of need is furnace roll coatings which deliver superior resistance to Mn and Si pick-up experienced with traditional Al2O3 based coating solutions when rolling many AHSS and HSLA steel grades. The TOCALO furnace roll coatings we can supply have significantly better pick-up resistance than standard furnace roll coatings at very competitive pricing. We provide incoming and outgoing roll profile measurements for all furnace rolls processed and we can process rolls for all furnace roll positions. SMS group can also offer value added services for those customers using our furnace roll coatings by doing on-site furnace roll inspections during planned maintenance outages to identify roll coating loss and/or initiation of pick-up issues.
