Our wheel forging lines enable the production of high-quality wheels from aluminum alloys for passenger cars as well as for trucks. Only forged wheels offer maximum safety, sophisticated design, and low weight. SMS group supplies the whole forging line from a single source: from the heating furnace through hydraulic closed-die forging presses to the flow-forming machine and post-treatment facilities.

Two hydraulic closed-die forging presses, located at the heart of the forging line, are responsible for the main forming stages. In the first step, the workpiece is forged into a suitable shape for subsequent processing. This allows the material to be optimally distributed in the second step, where a high degree of deformation is achieved. In this way, for example, complex wheel geometries can be realized that can be brought close to their near net shape. Thanks to this process, the material fibers run along the wheel geometry, resulting in high load resilience with a low wheel weight.

In the next stage of the process, the wheel is punched out in accordance with the final geometry before it is rolled in the spin forming machine where it is given its final shape.
