Hydraulic presses for isothermal forging
Great solution for forging of challenging alloys
Isothermal forging plants from SMS represent a perfectly aligned combination of vacuum chambers and a hydraulic press. With its many years of expertise in hydraulic presses and vacuum technology, SMS group can rely on well-established technology built in-house
The newly developed isothermal forging technology is designed to forge large parts that would push other facilities to their limits. For the forging dies, SMS group employs special materials that are exceptionally well suited to forming challenging high-temperature alloys. Our plants, which operate continuously at a constant temperature of 1,100 °C in the dies and workpiece, for instance, keep the whole forging process running.
The process takes place exclusively in a vacuum. To this end, SMS group developed vacuum chamber modules that can be expanded to suit the customer’s needs. The chambers, which are separated by locks, can be atmospherically flooded, whereby only the relevant sub-sections can be evacuated. The patented system, which comprises locks and double-walled pipes combined with a hydraulic press, also includes heating components for preheating the forging blanks as well as for heating the tools.
Our isothermal forging plants are an excellent choice for manufacturing safety-relevant components for the aerospace industry and for challenging parts for applications in the energy sector.
