The overhaul process was meticulously executed in December 2024 at SMS group's workshop in Hilchenbach, Germany. During this period, the main components and critical parts of the machine were replaced. To ensure optimal performance, a comprehensive test run was conducted, connecting the shear to a temporary drive system and oil lubrication system. This rigorous testing confirmed the machine's readiness to meet customers’ production demands, ensuring precision and efficiency.
The project's success was a testament to the seamless collaboration among SMS group's experts of engineering and service as well as the customer’s team, leading to smooth and efficient execution.
“We thank Novelis Koblenz for their trust and collaboration, which have been instrumental in achieving these technological advancements. This project not only highlights our lifecycle service solutions for maintenance and repairs but also underscores the benefits of our partnership with Novelis Koblenz, ensuring cutting-edge technology and operational excellence for the rolling mill,” said Marco Vorländer, Execution Service Core, Solutions Flat Products at SMS group.
Looking ahead, a similar overhaul is planned for the trimming shear on the operating side, scheduled for December 2025. SMS group will once again leverage its extensive expertise to ensure another successful modernization, further supporting Novelis’s operational continuity.
